Abstract :

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is lung damage caused by the exposure of certain irritant particles like nicotine from smoking over long period of time. COPDâ??s clients often seek for health care service from respiratory problems such as persistent or progressive dyspnea as a result from exacerbation. Confidence to take care of their health is a prior thing to help clients maintain their condition and it can lead an improvement on physical, psychological and social aspects on their life. This research aimed to identify the association between self-efficacy and quality of life among COPD clients. The method used in this research was quantitative method with cross sectional approach with 71 COPD clients as samples. COPD selfefficacy scale and WHOQOL-BREF were applied. All data were analyzed using spearman rank test. The result from this study showed a significant association between self-efficacy and quality of life (p=0.031) among COPDâ??s clients. The quality of life can be improved by having a good self-efficacy in COPDâ??s clients. Nurse and other healthcare professional need to design an intervention to improve the self-efficacy of clients and avoid of exacerbation condition especially in rehabilitation phase.

Tri Antika Rizki Kusuma Putri has completed her Magister in Medical Surgical from Universitas Indonesia and Nurse Specialist Program from same university. She is a Lecturer at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Keperawatan PPNI Jawa Barat, a nursing school at West Java.
