Abstract :

Statement of the Problem: Burnout is a syndrome associated with work. It consists of:
• Feelings of energy or emotional exhaustion
• Depersonalization, feelings of cynicism related to one's job
• Reduced professional efficacy [accomplishment]
It is seen greatly in medicine, among physicians and other clinicians. Burnout can lead to poor patient outcomes, including expense to the system with turnover. Burnout can start as early as medical school. Conclusion & Significance: Burnout starts earlier than residency or clinical practice. It is multifactorial. Interventions need to be placed sooner in training, including cultural change of medicine. Burnout should always be on the radar.
