Biography

 Professor Richard Schuster is Professor of Health Policy and Management and Director of the Center for Global Health at the University of Georgia (UG A ) in Georgia, USA. After obtaining his MD from the Uni versity of Rochester (UR) in New York, Professor Schuster went on to complete his residency and chief residency in internal medicine at the same institution. He had spent the first part of his medical c areer in clinical practice and served as volunteer faculty at the Department of Medicine of UR, where he progressed through various roles including Clinical Senior Inst ructor (1988 – 1990) and Clinical Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine (1990 – 1995) . In 1996, Professor Schuster joined the Boonshoft School of Medicine (formerly Wright State University School of Medicine ) , where he progressed to become Oscar Boonshoft Chair and Professor of Medicine at the Center for Global Health Systems, Management and Policy (2000 – 2008) , before assuming his current roles at UG. Professor Schuster’s interests include global health systems, implementation of practice guidelines, cardiovasc ular risk factor red uction and healthcare disparities. He has held funding from var ious agencies , including t he National Heart , Lung , and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) , and has acted as Consultant to numerous professional medical education programs and institutions. Professor S c h uster received more than $28 million in funding from the Boonshoft School of Medicine for hi s initiatives including the Global Health System Program. He has published widely in many leading peer - reviewe d journals, such as the American Journal of Medical Quality , Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine , Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging and the J ournal of Clinical Hypertension .
