My personal research interests are in clinical, translational science and health services research in neuro-rehabilitaion and other health care areas, which spans in clinical, academic & research domains. Being a researcher and clinician, provides the ideal opportunities to conduct high quality research and translate evidence-based findings into practice for improved patient outcomes. I have been involved and overseen various major research projects and have published more than 180 articles in prominent academic journals. These include 13 systematic reviews (10 Cochrane reviews); 5 RCTs and 10 book chapters: Most of my work has led to establishment of comprehensive multidisciplinary care for neurological cohorts, which provide evidence based, patient oriented quality care aimed at reducing disability and enhancing participation. These programs have now been implemented nationally and internationally. My research findings have led to translation of research outputs and embedded in clinical practice and policy development. These findings are also incorporated in various evidence-based clinical protocols and practice guidelines; and teaching materials used by the University of Melbourne and Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine; and consumer organisations. I lead a team of multidisciplinary clinicians and researchers and provide research methods support. I currently supervise 6 PhD students. I am currently a reviewer for 10 medical journals.
Further, I am a strong advocate for evidence-base practices and integrated care for persons with disability. I am a regular presenter at International and local educational conferences, seminars/programmes for translation of research evidence into practice for improved and sustainable clinical practice change.
