Department of Biomedical Signals and Systems, University of Twente, The Netherlands
Biography
Prof. Dr E.Marani studied biology and was appointed staff member of the Dep. of Anatomy in Leiden in 1970. He teached anatomy and neuroanatomy and graduated on the thesis "Enzyme histochemistry of the mammalian cerebellum: acetylcholinesterase and 5'-nucleotidase" in 1982 at the Leiden University. In 1985 he became head of the Neuroregulation group at the Dept. of Physiology at the same University. In 1992 a start was made with culturing cortical, hypothalamic, DRG neurons and glial cells. He was visiting professor at the Heinrich Heine University Dusseldorf (1991-1992) and professor of Anatomy (Sofia) and Neurophysiology (Stara Zagora) from 1995-1998. In 1997 he was appointed professor in Neurophysiology at the Twente University. Topics of research from 1986 on were regeneration of the central and peripheral nervous system, especially the brachial plexus lesions- together with the Neurosurgery Department, development of the nervous system- together with Dr. E.A.J.F. Lakke. Morphometry of the nervous system is carried out in the Leiden Neuroregulation group by Dr. H.K.P. Feirabend.
Research Interest
His research interests are neuroregulation and neurotechnology, especially in the field of nerve regeneration.
