Hiroshi Okamoto received his MD and PhD from Juntendo University in Tokyo, Japan. He was trained as a resident in Internal Medicine at Jichi Medical University in Tochigi, Japan and as a fellow in Division of Rheumatology at Jichi Medical University. He trained as a post-doc and a molecular biologist at Howard Hughes Medical Institute /University of California San Francisco from 1995 to1997. He has been Assistant Professor of Medicine at Institute of Rheumatology; Tokyo Women’s Medical University in Tokyo since 2005 and has been Associate Professor since 2008. He has been a Director at Minami-Otsuka Institute of Technology, Minami-Otsuka Clinic since 2009.
His research interest has been focused on transcriptional regulation of genes involved in the immunological regulations, such as NF-kB, CIITA and HIV-1 Tat. In addition, his research interests are the pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus especially NPSLE, including the role of cytokines and chemokines.
