Susan Brien

Susan Brien assumed her current role of Director of Simulation Based Education and Practice, Performance and Innovation at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in July 2013. She is also an integral part of RCCI as the Associate Director for Asia initiatives.
A neurosurgeon with a Master’s of Education from the University of Toronto, Dr. Brien is the former Director of Operations for Quebec, Eastern Canada and Nunavut with the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI). She continues to practice neurosurgery at CSSS Gatineau and is Chief of trauma for the region, and is also Adjunct Professor of Surgery at the University of Ottawa.
On a recent visit to China, she met with several organizations and discussed initiatives including improving residency education through faculty development, collaborations with respect to simulation, and improving accreditation systems and standardization.
