Abstract

Convalescence Plasma Therapy for Covid 19: Expectations & Risks

Ola Badr Abo El Nil

COVID19 dramatically affected blood donation and
storage. That is why AABB develop a plan for hospital’s
blood inventory as we continue to engage in efforts responding
to the COVID-19 outbreak.
As Plasma is the liquid portion of blood that remains
when all red and white blood cells and platelets have been
removed. It was over a hundred years ago that Emil Behring
was awarded the first Nobel Prize for physiology and
medicine for his work demonstrating that plasma could
be used to treat diphtheria. From that idea developed the
role of convalescence patient’s plasma in managing infectious
disease to benefit from antibodies developed in
response to the infecting agent.
The lecture spoke the mechanism of action of Convalescence
plasma, how it works, and the eligibility criteria of
the donors and the patients whom could benefit from it.
It also defines plasmapharesis, acquisition and testing it
before donation. Evaluating Public Health Surveillance
The review also discussed the dose of donation, hazards
and complications of convalescence plasma in COVID19.
