Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases: state of the art in Spain and Andalusia

Enrique Otero Chulian

The data of epidemiology of the cardiovascular diseases in Europe, published in EHJ  shows  that is the first cause of death in men (40% and 49% in women

Spain has a  population of 46,77 million people  with a mortality about 30% and in the 5 lasts years are decline, Andalusia has 32% , that in the last data we can see that the CVD are the first cause of death  and with a clear trend of decline over the years, in a manner similar to the USA.

Andalusía has a population of 8.369.618 people ,and we have two important papers published in CARDIOCORE, the official magazine of our Andalusian  Society of Cardiology, showing the results of a survey about the cardiac mortality in general  with downward trend, and in the different provinces with higher mortality in Seville and  Cadiz.. However, there is a higher mortality in Seville and Cadiz.

And now Id’like to show the results of the most important survey in Europe about de Cardiovascular Diseases, which is the EUROASPIRE V registry. In this survey 27 countries participated, with 8 Spanish hospitals. I was the main researcher in my hospital in Cadiz.

We believe that to improve adherence, the prevention and cardiac rehabilitation programs play an important role. At this point I'll review the situation of these programs in Spain and Andalusia

Andalusia ranks first in number of units in Spain.

I will finally present our results and experience:  we compare the results between patients with acute myocardial infarction, whom the program attended, with those who did not make cardiac rehabilitation , and what were the reasons for those patients who left the program earlier? Self-efficacy and personality.
