Topic: The aim of this research is to present the case of a patient with Clostridium difficile, as well as to determine the role and importance of the nurse in the process of health care of this patient.Initial hypothesis: Today, this bacteria is the most important and most common cause of nosocomial diarrhea with potentially fatal consequences. As infections caused by Clostridium difficile become more frequent and clinically more severe, their public health significance is increasing. Research goal: Case report of a patient who was diagnosed with clostridium difficile in the stool on the second postoperative day. Research methodology: The research was conducted at the Department of Infectious Diseases at the General Hospital in Cuprija. Research time is the period from 29.05.- 19.06.2019. For the research I used the documentation available at the Department of Infectious Diseases at the General Hospital in Cuprija (medical history, temperature lists, nursing history), as well as the patient’s personal documentation (doctor’s reports and findings, discharge lists). Findings: The use of antibiotics in a large number of cases results in the killing of bacteria from the normal flora of the digestive tract. In this patient, during the treatment of the operative wound infection, different parenteral antibiotics were given alternately, which consequently led to Clostridium difficile infection. Conclusion: Clostridium difficile is a bacterium that can lead to a severe condition of the patient and even to death. Timely detection of infection caused by this bacterium is of key importance for the success of treatment and remediation of nosocomial infections. The knowledge of nurses and experience in working with these patients is very important. Biography: Lazar Stevanovic, RN in ER- Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade. He worked as an assistant lecturer during his first studies and taught 4 subjects, he was president of the student Parliament and secretary of the Red Cross Field Youth Unit.
