"Some studies on stab wounds found higher rates of hospitalization compared with those over last decades in under developing countries. Stab injuries and fatalities have been reported to be the most common crimes of violence in several countries, particularly in those where access to firearms is restricted like Iran. In another hand, the management of stab wound injuries is exceedingly complex, and expensive, so it can be economic benefits based upon the potential to reduce mortality and mitigate disability by controlling effective factors on stab wounds. The study population included patients with stab wounds admitted to the emergency department of Taleghani hospital-the first trauma center in Kermanshah-during 6 months. The data were collected through a questionnaire that was completed by a trained physician at the ED. The statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software (version 16 for windows). The statistical analysis was conducted using Chi-Square. P<0.05 was accepted as being statistically significant. In 167 patients 139 (82.2%) were males 89 (53.3%) patients were single and 137 (82.0%) were urban residents. 158 (94.6%) cases were caused by fighting, 3 (1.8%) by car accident and 6 (3.6%) by other reasons. Hand cut with 76 (45.5%) cases, abdominal stab wounds with 26 (15.6%) and head penetrating trauma with 18 (10.8) took the placements from the first to third, respectively. 13 (7.8%) had mild injury but 154 (92.2) had severe injury, in another word, 138 (82.6%) were hospitalized, 21 (12.6%) received clinical cares and 8 (4.8%) needed surgery. 56 (33.5%) patients had intermediate educational level And 106 patients were unemployment."
